Chris Taylor's MKI 1969 Blue Mink 2000GT XLR Capri
'Stunning' is the word that I would use to describe Chris's MKI.This is one of the very first Capri's to be built - March 1969. This is the first ever car that Chris has restored. He bought this MKI in 1980 - it was green with a beige interior at that time. After a couple of years it failed it's MOT and for various reasons the Capri then sat in a field until 2008. Chris built a two-car garage and proceeded to strip the MKI. There was a lot of rot around the boot floor, front valence and wings. Chris learnt as he went along, reassured by the phrase "If anything went wrong with the paint, it could always be rubbed down and done again!"
During the restoration, Chris discovered and old decal that confirmed that this MKI spent the first 10 years of it's life in South Africa. Restored to it's original Blue Mink colour, complete interior retrim and Essex V4 engine rebuilt, I doubt that you will find a better MKI anywhere. Based near Bath, this Capri is driven to many events and was on display as part of the 2019 Capri 50 Years celebrations at Gaydon (nr Coventry), Dunton (Essex), Wonderland (Nottingham), Regent Street (London) and the NEC (Birmingham) Classic Motor Show.
